UK Space Agency will merge with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology

20th August 2025

Today’s announcement that the UK Space Agency will merge with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology by April 2026 is significant, and here at Space-Comm we want to offer our support to both key partners, who we value enormously, and to the wider UK space community.

The merger of UK Space Agency with DSIT has caused significant headlines and commentary, highlighting the crucial role of space for the UK economy and critical infrastructure for defence, communications, aviation, transport, agriculture and climate monitoring. In the UK the space sector is valued at £18.6bn with 1,907 organisations, employing 55,550 people and a supply chain of 137,000. The global space sector is estimated at $1.8 trillion by 2035 representing a huge opportunity.

The ‘One Government’ approach aims to bring together policy, strategy and delivery into a single unit to consolidate the industry, and closer alignment across core space activities.

Now more than ever the UK requires a supercharged, ambitious space sector with a global outlook, working closely with ESA and partners across North America and Asia to accelerate aspirations for launch, satellites, ISAM, AI, robotics, cyber and quantum; and to position the UK at the forefront of space sustainability, regulation, law and insurance.

Here at Space-Comm we want to provide a forum for collaboration with the UK Space Agency and DSIT alongside DBT, DfT and MoD, to engage and connect with innovators and investors, to help drive commercial success for the UK space sector on the global stage.

Join us at Space-Comm Scotland 3-4 Dec 2025 and Space-Comm Europe 4-5 Mar 2026, the UK’s largest space industry event series, to help shape the future of the space industry.
