Government as a Customer

Capability in space-based technologies is increasingly critical to a prosperous economy, national security, resilience, and sustainability. We rely on space day-to-day for navigation services, weather forecasting, communication, surveillance, among other uses. The spill-over benefits from space technologies are similarly extensive, impacting sectors such as agriculture, transport, healthcare, and construction.

Government space procurement is today decentralised, with a limited awareness of opportunities across departments. As the sector grows, we see government’s use of space solutions growing with it and want our space procurement to meet the evolving needs of both UK government and companies.   UK Space Agency recently highlighted the growing need to improve coherence and efficiency of all government space procurement to increase awareness, access, and ease for both suppliers and public bodies and are now in the process of establishing an Unlocking Space for Government programme.

The aim of this interactive panel session during Space Comm Expo will:

  • Increase awareness and educate government and public sector agencies of the opportunities presented by space technologies and support them to become a more knowledgeable and dynamic customer for space technologies.
  • Help industry to identify opportunities for space to meet challenges faced by government
  • Provide companies with a better understanding of the procurement process and increase the opportunities to secure government contracts, thereby increasing the utilisation of space services.
  • Showcase case studies of existing public sector space initiatives to help demonstrate the opportunities offered by space services
  • Industry players leave knowing how they can better sell into government and understand upcoming opportunities and past examples
  • Government players leave with a better understanding of how space can support their services, how to stay updated on tech developments and engage with space related SME buyers

This engaging panel discussion will feature a range of government/ public sector agencies and industry representatives.  It will examine the potential of emerging space technologies to support a range of challenges faced by government and public sector agencies.  You will hear from people who have directly benefited from engagement with public sector organisations and  understand how to access collaborative opportunities.
